The threat of spreading swine flu has forced at least two US Consulate posts to close and cease visa processing. As of 2:00 pm EST, both Mexico City and the post in Monterrey have reported closing.
The Monterrey Consulate processes the largest number of guestworkers in the world.
This update was published on 4/26 on the US Embassy’s (Mexico City) website,
“The Embassy’s visa unit will also suspend normal operations during this week. The Embassy will reschedule all visa applications which have been made for the week of April 27th. Our call center will call or e-mail applicants to reschedule appointments. Alternatively, applicants may re-schedule visa appointments without being charged by calling 01-800-719-2525.”
We haven’t received any other details concerning the closing.
